My work examines the contradictions of contemporary society, where technology promises ease, luxury and connection, yet often complicates our lives, wastes resources, and alienates us from each other. I also think a lot about currency—not just money, but the larger sense of exchange and acceptance. What do we value today, and how do we assign that value?

The work centers on human experience. Even when addressing global warming or species extinction, the questions are framed by how humans perceive these catastrophes, and whether we can be made to care enough. I'd like to believe we can.

My videos subvert visual tropes from commercials, documentaries and narrative film, using unconventional performances and props—money, food, ice. Time-lapse is another way I coax "performances" from inanimate objects.

Ideas can come from anywhere: a morning news story, a dream image, something witnessed long ago that I can't shake and keep returning to, like the irritant that becomes the oyster's pearl. But to sustain a full work, an idea needs to feel vital, urgent, and open to the viewer's participation and interpretation—I avoid closed systems and predetermined outcomes.

Though I sometimes work in sculpture and performance, video is my primary medium for its quirky contrasts: immediate yet planned, perceived as "real" yet just as manipulable as anything else. It touches nearly every other discipline—sculpture, painting, typography, performance, music, photography. A video begins with me alone, thinking and organizing, moves through collaboration with performers and crew, then ends with me alone again in the editing room.
